Our name honors a storied lineage; our work proves that legacy only matters if it drives the future forward.
The Monon name was first written into history in 1847 when the original Monon Railroad connected towns, people, and commerce across Indiana. For generations it was a lifeline, hauling soldiers home, carrying grain from the heartland, and stitching communities together with steel and spirit. That chapter formally closed in 1971 when the rails went silent. Yet the values that powered it, dependability, connection, and craft endured.
We honor the historians, railfans, and preservation groups who have kept the Monon’s story alive. Their stewardship laid the track for us to carry the name forward. We are not a railroad company, but a company that embodies what the railroad stood for: lasting infrastructure, service to community, and an identity strong enough to bind people together.

The Hoosier Line
Our guiding slogan, “The Hoosier Line,” is not just a relic of the railroad, it is a living principle. First used to describe the trains that connected Indiana’s towns, it stood for reliability, pride, and shared identity. Though the last Monon train ran in 1971, we continue with the phrase because it captures our enduring promise: to connect people, strengthen communities, and build opportunities that last.

As Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Sam leads Monon LLC with a commitment to integrity, responsibility, and vision. His fascination with how systems, brands, and traditions shape communities began early, and his long-standing love of trains and their beauty gave that fascination its direction. That passion grew into a drive to create ventures that bridge heritage and innovation, showing how the past can guide the future. What began as creative projects such as large-scale holiday lighting shows has evolved into business concepts in technology, logistics, and infrastructure, all designed to strengthen communities while honoring legacy.
Today, Sam serves as both steward of a historic name and architect of its modern future. Under his leadership, every venture, from entertainment brands like Lunix to consulting and brand development services, carries forward the principles that define Monon Railroad and now The Monon Company: reliability, grit, imagination, and service to community. He is always eager to hear the stories and memories of those who knew the Monon, because it was the community around it that kept the name from fading to photographs alone. That same spirit now fuels the work of The Monon Company as it writes the next chapter.
